World Backup Day 2015
What would you lose forever if your data is lost or stolen?
March 31st is World Backup Day. This is a day where IT professionals get the word out on the importance of backups.
Some sobering statistics;
- 30% of people have never backed up.
- Only 25% of people do a regular backup.
- 29% of data disasters are caused accidentally.
- 1 in 10 computers are infected with viruses every month. Many of these viruses can destroy your data.
- 113 phones are lost or stolen every minute.
We store so much of our lives via documents, photos and videos but with that ease of use comes a greater danger of losing these irreplaceable items. Thankfully we have technology that can insure our data remains safe.
If you follow the 3-2-1 rule your data will be safe.
- 3 copies of your data
- 2 different types of storage (drive, NAS, cloud)
- 1 copy offsite.
Also ensure that on a regular basis you test your restores to ensure everything is working correctly. Following these steps you can be more confident that your data will be safe.
