Keeping unique passwords
I did a blog post earlier this year advising people to keep strong passwords.
Last month a hacker group reported that they had obtained a large number of passwords from file sync and share service Dropbox. Dropbox later issued a statement saying that they had not been hacked.
“These usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts,” the company said. This is one of the reasons you should never use the same password for more then one site or service.
The rest of the advice I gave still stands
- Use a unique password on every site.
- When padding, don’t use the same special character, mix them up but make sure you can still remember them.
- Even if you pad them avoid easy to guess passwords like;
Children’s names.
Pet names.
Birthday dates.
Street names.
Following these tips will ensure you are safer when online.
