CBC Sochi App Airplay Language issues
We have been enjoying the Olympic coverage from CBC. One concern I had was how to watch the events since we cut cable a year ago. The CBC website allows you to watch quite a bit via the web, but the iOS app allows for Airplay stream to our Apple TV.
However I (and many others if you do a search) discovered that many feeds would switch to French when switching Airplay to the Apple TV.
I reached out to CBC and got the following reply fairly quickly.
To select English audio on Apple TV (via Airplay)
1. Start the video you want to watch on your Apple TV.
2. While the video is playing, press and “hold” the play/pause button in the middle of the wheel, on your Apple TV remote control, to go to the Audio/Video settings.
3. Move selection to the Audio tab.
4. Scroll down to select English, then click and release the play/pause button “quickly”. Apple TV will automatically return to the video with your selected language.
Works perfectly, and I now have a happy spouse who can now watch the Ice Dance on the big TV. My thanks to CBC for getting back to me so quickly.
Update: Commenter Rob Little adds some good tips as well in the comments below. Thanks!

Just to help a few other people, although CBC is calling it the “Play/Pause” button, Apple calls it the “Select” button.
Next, to move between the “Subtitles”, “Audio”, and “Speakers” menus that appear, press “Up” on the wheel button to highlight the menu you want. Then use “Down” on the wheel to highlight the audio language you want, and final press the “Select” button!
(or press the “MENU” button to exit without making any changes)
Thanks for the clarifications Rob!
