Apple made some new product announcements today. The most anticipated was a new version of the iPad. Instead of being called the iPad 3 as many expected, Apple has named it “The New iPad”

Some quick features.

  • The screen resolution goes from 1024×768 to 2048×1536. 264 pixels per inch which is double of the iPad 2. Apple calls this a ‘retina’ display as the eye cannot see individual pixels as a comfortable distance
  • The camera has been updated from 1megapixel to 5 and includes auto focus and exposure like on the iPhone 4s.
  • The wireless version of the iPad will support 4G lte cell networks.
  • Processor is a new quad-core graphics chip that has four times the power as the current duel-core in the iPad2.
  • Battery life will stay the same as the iPad 2. but the the new iPad will be slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate the new processor and update battery.
  • One feature mentioned is voice diction support for several languages although not full Siri support like on the iPhone 4s, we will have to see how this works out for people.
  • Available on March 16th in US, Canada and several other countries and you can pre-order starting today. Pricing should follow the US and stay the same.
